Music Tuesday: John Mark McMillan

The day has come, the well anticipated John Mark McMillan album, Economy, has been released.

I have been sitting with this album for about a month now and the more I listen the more I like it.
John Mark continues to make music that is his own music and yet represents thousands of people. That might sound like indie blog-esque hyperbole, but going back to a post I wrote a while ago (found here) about the difference between writing for others and writing for yourself, John Mark does a great job of producing music that he is wrestling with instead of wondering what others want to hear.

This album is John Mark and his bands music, and for that I love it and I think you will as well.

Music Tuesday: Coldplay

For your sake I hope you have already heard the new Coldplay album Mylo Xyloto. But if not, I got the hook up for you.

This album continues to build on the previous strong albums that we have come to love from Coldplay like Viva La Vida, X & Y, and Parachutes. But to be honest this album could be their best.

You and everyone else (minus the music snobs who hate music that any one else likes) will love this album.

Confused by the name of the album Mylo Xyloto, here is what Chris Martin has to say about it, (it is) “based on a love story with a happy ending, in which two protagonists: Mylo and Xyloto, who are living in an oppressive, dystopian urban environment, meet one another through a gang called “The Lost Boys”, and fall in love.”

That should make you want to listen

(side note, I have tried to get this up on grooveshark all day, not working. Sorry)

You wont be able to listen in google reader or your phone. Come here to listen

Music Tuesday: Wye Oak

Music Tuesday: Feist

How can you not listen to a singer named Feist? How cool of a name is that?

Well if you are in doubt let me help cure that today. I present to you some soulful music that will start your Tuesday off with some great noise. The album is called Metals and you can get it here

Check it out, Feist:

Music Tuesday: Gungor

I was wrong, like seriously wrong. A couple of weeks ago I talked about how NeedToBreathe and Gungor struck out. I was wrong about one of those things, Gungor has hit a homerun.

Today on Music Tuesday I feature an album that has grown on me so much that I have listened to it almost every day for the last week.

What changed? I saw Gungor live.

Sounds pretty simple, but after seeing Gungor perform this entire album live two weeks ago here in Nashville everything changed. I will be honest, the first half of the show was pretty lame, as my friend @MattyWayne would say, more like slumber then gungor. (be sure to hit him up on twitter and tell him he is country strong. Do that right here). But as soon as the first intermission was over it turned into one of the best concerts I have ever been to, like top 5. I went home that night, put the record on and listened to it two more times. It was that good.

So today I want all of us to give Gungor’s new work Ghost Upon the Earth a second chance.

Today I am happy to share with you for Music Tuesday, Gungor

You cannot hear this in your google reader or on your phone. Come here to listen

Music Tuesday: Aloe Blacc

Let’s change it up a bit today on Music Tuesday. Let’s get some soulful sound in hear (play on words, get it). Today we feature Aloe Blacc, and his album Good Things. This is an easy listen considering his album is called Good Things. This is a no brainer.

So enjoy some Aloe Blacc and if this is not your type of music check out previous weeks on Music Tuesday here.

You cannot hear this if you are on your phone or in google reader, you gotta go here to listen.

Music Tuesday: This Will Destroy You

Not literally destroy, but metaphorically it could just do that. The band “This Will Destroy You” is soundtrack music for the working. I say it is soundtrack music for the working because it is perfect to listen to while your read, write, or work on projects. It is my kind of music that I use to get focused and get things done.

Today I wanted to provide you with some work music and my favorite “This Will Destroy You” album Young Mountain

Enjoy…and get some work done

Music Tuesday: Daniel Bashta

Two things I love about this Music Tuesday, guitar tone and lions. Those could be some of my favorite things.

I have been sitting on this album for what seems like 4 or 5 months, listening and listening, waiting and waiting for the day I can present it on Music Tuesday. Folks, that day has come.

The sounds of Daniel Bashta are magnificent. I mean the guy literally calls out the devil in the song “the Sound” and talks about roaring like a lion. What more could you ask for?

This could be one of my favorite albums of the year. The first song, “Dreamers” is seriously one of the best songs I have heard in a while. You will not be disappointed in today’s Music Tuesday selection.

Enjoy the Sounds of Daniel Bashta:

Music Tuesday: Iron and Wine

It is that time again. Well, kind of. For some of you it feels like a Monday, for those of us that worked on labor day it is definitely a Tuesday. Which is a good thing, because it is a Music Tuesday.

Today features some music that fits the weather. Now honestly all I know about the weather is what I am seeing as I look out the window of my coffee shop. Which currently it is 61 degrees and raining. So I thought I would pick some music that matched the weather.

Let me present to you Iron & Wine.
If you are unfamiliar with Iron & Wine let me catch you up. Samuel Beam fronts this “band”, and when I say band I mean one guy with a guitar (that would be Samuel Beam). His music is very folky and soulful at the same time. It is perfect coffee sippin type music.

So grab some coffee or tea, sit back and enjoy the sounds and weather

How is the weather where you are at today?
